High School Scholarships

Our mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. In this spirit, we provide several scholarships for high school students going to college and young women returning to school to further their education.

High School Scholarships

We offer two $1,000 high school scholarships to students pursuing college or vocational training. Eligible applicants must be graduating from following schools: El Dorado, Golden Sierra, Independence, Union Mine, or a virtual academy school.  You can visit the CA Local Scholarship website at https://www.calocalscholarships.org/default.asp then find our scholarships under “Soroptimist International of Placerville”

Carolyn Hibbeln’s Dream Memorial Scholarship

Carolyn Hibbeln was a treasured club member and when she passed, a scholarship fund was established in her name with the help of her family. This scholarship focuses on those students who have a passion for community service.  Refer to the same application as above at the CA Local Scholarship website address: https://www.calocalscholarships.org/default.asp.

Lennie Mills Memorial Scholarship

Lennie Mills was a club member and when she passed, a scholarship fund was established in her honor. This scholarship focuses on those students who excel in their volunteerism in our community.  Refer to the same application as above at the CA Local Scholarship website address: https://www.calocalscholarships.org/default.asp.

Science, Math and Engineering Scholarship

In addition, we have a new engineering scholarship entitled the “Science, Math and Engineering Scholarship”.  Thanks to Mark Acuna and friends, for their dedication to make this scholarship available annually.  Mark has a passion for education and feels more women would participate in the engineering field if given an opportunity. With a long family history of engineering professionals, he knows the value as it helped them throughout their careers.  This scholarship will be offered to young women going into college as well as those returning to pursue their degree in the engineering field.  This scholarship, established in 2017-18, will be offered annually in the amount of $1,000.   Selected applicants will be invited to our annual awards dinner each year.
